As a means of helping to diversify the community’s income streams, 16 Khwe women were trained in basket weaving techniques and providing market access for their products. All of the materials (palm leaves and various plants used to make dyes) were collected from the nearby forest. The local partner for this project is the Omba Arts Trust, which specializes in training basket weavers and product marketing. Basket weaving provides a long-term sustainable source of income which is nature-friendly and will help make the community more resilient to the changes in weather and climate they are experiencing.
