Adopt an African Rhino Calf

African Rhino Calf

There are two species of African rhinos. Black rhinos are classified as “critically endangered,” and white rhinos are classified as “near threatened.”

The main threat to African rhinos is poaching for the illegal wildlife trade. Rhinos are killed for their horn, which some cultures believe to possess medicinal properties. The horn is also highly prized as a status symbol in Asian countries such as Vietnam. The skyrocketing value of rhino horn combined with an increasing demand has attracted well-organized and well-financed professional criminal gangs to become involved in poaching.

Stamping out wildlife crime is a priority for WWF. We are working with partners to increase law enforcement, support wildlife rangers and antipoaching efforts, and reduce consumer demand for illegal wildlife products such as rhino horn. Show More
