Adult male orangutans can weigh up to 200 pounds. Bornean and Sumatran orangutans differ slightly in… appearance and behavior. Both have shaggy reddish fur, but Sumatran orangutans have longer facial hair. Sumatran orangutans appear to have closer social bonds than do their Bornean cousins. Bornean orangutans are more likely to spend time on the ground. A third species announced in 2017, the Tapanuli orangutan, is the most endangered of all great apes, with no more than 800 individuals.
