Of all the pinnipeds, fin-footed animals, sea lions are the strongest swimmers; their strong flippers also make them agile on land, helping them scoot along beaches and rocky shorelines. Like all marine mammals, they have a thick layer of blubber to keep them warm in the chilly ocean.
