The red-footed booby flies above the ocean to forage and scan for prey, dropping swiftly in a plunge-dive or shallow-angle dive once prey is spotted. They often catch flying fish in the air. Most booby species nest on the ground, but the red-footed nests in trees, which provides protection from ground predators for this smallest booby.
